Anastasia Calinovici (b. 1996, Romania) develops an interdisciplinary practice spanning painting, sculpture, object, installation and new media. Working through a posthumanist lens, she explores the complex relationships between human and non-human entities, integrating dark symbolism with mythological and speculative imagery to construct immersive visual narratives in which the boundaries between reality and fiction dissolve.
While employing occult references and almost horror-like scenarios, her work seeks a balance between light and darkness, human and non-human. By inhabiting these gray zones, Calinovici creates distorted realities where dualities merge, overlap, or reverse.
Recent solo exhibitions include “Plague Fatigue”at Invitro, Cluj-Napoca (2023) and “Somewhere between fever and decay” at Atelier 35, Bucharest (2022). She has also participated in group exhibitions at Pharmakon Gallery, Bucharest (2025), Vila Catena, Bucharest (2025) and Asylum Chapel, London (2023).
